Do you remember your first work experience placement?
So, when we were invited to host a couple of students from local schools for their work experience, we pulled out all the stops to welcome Aimee and Remy for one week of learning what working in the real world is like!
Welcoming our new starters…
After taking part in our staff induction program, they know what it should be like to be onboarded to a team and what information they should look out for in their welcome packs.
We also ran Zoom training courses so they could master the video calls we’ve all become accustomed to in recent years – as well as a course on selling Zoom services, hopefully inspiring another Justin Goodchild-in-the-making!
But learning wasn’t all one-way… They taught us a few tricks or two as well, including how to customise our Avatars in Teams!
Then Aimee and Remy got to work…
Both spent time working on general admin responsibilities like filing documents and updating our CRM to ensure we had the right information on our customer databases.
“Having been brought up with computers, it was amazing to see how fast they took to our systems – we had to tell them to slow down because they were making the rest of us look bad!”
When he was with the sales team, Remy had a go at a little customer engagement, connecting our newest customers to their Account Managers, so that they had a second direct method of contact for any questions they had.
“More than the actual steps, we emphasised the importance of relationship building in business, and how something as simple as a LinkedIn request can lead to great things!”
Saying goodbye (For now?)
By the end of the week, they had both gotten to spend some time with our Engineering team too, looking inside some of the complex hardware we provide for our customers, amazed at how all the little transistors, components and circuitry look like miniature cities!
“They were both so chatty, wide-eyed and helpful. I know the younger generations get a bad rap at times, but Aimee and Remy were both amazing, and would be credits to the team!”
Surprisingly, we didn’t think we’d make such strong bonds with our students, and the team was sad to see them both return to school… But they won’t go back empty-handed!
We’ve given them the laptops they used when they were working on all things Future Voice as a thank you and also so they can keep excelling in their studies with a reliable device.
Without tooting our horn too much, we’re sure they had a great experience in working with our team, one that hopefully will help them enter the workplace with more confidence and skills to flourish in their first fully-fledged working roles.
In fact, we were so bowled over by how our colleagues helped the entire team, we’ll be repeating the same process for work experience candidates in the future, as well as exploring apprentice opportunities too – so watch this space!
